In the early part of the century, John Manville
was looking for a new location for his company. Ground was broken in 1912 for the new
factory in the northeastern part of Hillsborough Township. The plant grew and so did the
community. Railroad men bestowed the name "Manville" on the borough and in 1929 Manville,
NJ was declared a municipality. The Borough of Manville is a multi ethnic community and is focused on family, especially through the numerous area churches. Residents from throughout Somerset County come every summer to enjoy the many delicacies, particularly the Polish food, found at the Sacred Heart Fair.
