Somerville, New Jersey
The area known as Somerville, NJ was purchased in 1683 from the Lenape Indians for 120 ponds sterling. Prior to the railroad coming to Somerville in 1841, the town was a main stop for stagecoaches going between Newark and Philadelphia.
Somerville is the county seat for Somerset County with a beautiful white marble court house in the center of town. Approximately 2.4 miles in size, Somerville is considered a small town with quiet neighborhoods and quaint houses.
Today, Somerville is best known for the "Tour of Somerville", a Memorial Day bicycle race which draws thousands of visitors from around the world to compete and watch.
