Branchburg Township, New Jersey
The area now known as Branchburg Township was originally inhabited by the Raritan Indians. By 1686 the land had been sold to proprietors who later sold it to the Dutch and English settlers. The area was called East Jersey and encompassed parts of Essex and Middlesex Counties as well.
Today, Branchburg is a semi-rural area ofapproximately 20.2 square miles located some thirty miles southwest of Newark. There is a touch of small village flavor in the hamlets of North Branch and Neshanic Station.
