Bernardsville, New Jersey

BernardsvilleOriginally named Vealtown, the Borough of Bernardsville was renamed in 1840 for Sir Francis Bernard, Colonial Governor of New Jersey, for whom Bernards Township was also named. Bernardsville and Bernards Township split in 1924 and Bernardsville was then an independent community full of historical heritage.

Bernardsville remained a smalll town of rustic cottages until the 1860's and 1870's when it came into its own as the wealthy came out by train from New York and built mansions on the mountain. Many of these fine homes are in existance today.
Combined suburban and rural living at its finest, Bernardsville boasts some of the finest estates, new and old, in the area and offers excellent community living and activites to its residents. The town is 13.1 square miles.
